Prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines need to be disposed of in a safe way and cannot be put into your normal waste bin. If you have any leftover medicines that your healthcare professional has asked you to stop taking or they are out of date, we can take these back and will dispose of them safely for you. Please call us on 01476 852752 and our team will be able to advise you of the process.
The only exception to this is 'sharps' such as needles. These will need to be disposed of safely in a suitable sharps container such as a sharpsguard or sharpsafe device. You may have been prescribed one of these by your GP or other healthcare professional, however, if not, these are freely available to buy for a small charge at your local high street pharmacy.
Once your sharps container is full (do not fill past the line), seal it securely using the directions on the box and contact your local authority to find out how you can dispose of them. You can find your local authority details here.
